Successful Clean-Up in Halkidiki with REMEDIES and Blue Halkidiki 2025

The REMEDIES project is proud to collaborate with Greek Eco Project and their flagship initiative, Blue Halkidiki, through its partner Alchemia Nova Greece. This partnership brings the vision of the EU Mission “Restore our Ocean and Waters” closer to local communities in Greece, engaging citizens directly in hands-on environmental action. Together, REMEDIES and the Greek Eco Project have joined forces to raise awareness, reduce marine pollution, and foster citizen science in one of Greece’s most iconic coastal regions — Halkidiki.

By supporting Blue Halkidiki 2025, REMEDIES contributes to community-led action and environmental education, promoting the use of innovative tools such as the REMEDIES coastal litter monitoring app, which is newly co-designed for citizen use. Through this collaboration, citizens and volunteers are not only cleaning up coastlines and seabeds but also collecting valuable data that contribute to scientific monitoring and EU-wide marine protection strategies.

REMEDIES shows how local action and smart tools can make a global difference. With the Shoreline Marine Litter App v1.0, developed by Infordata Sistemi Srl together with other REMEDIES partners, every clean-up becomes a step toward healthier seas. The recent beach clean-up in Porto Koufo, organized under Blue Halkidiki 2025, was a great success: volunteers managed to remove significant amounts of litter while also contributing to the project’s #20TonnesChallenge — the collective goal of removing 20 tonnes of litter from European and Mediterranean coasts.

Cleaner seas, stronger communities
