On 26 May 2026, the final conference of the Karst Firewall 5.0 project took place at the Peace Monument of Cerje (Miren, Slovenia). Co-funded by the European Union under the Interreg VI-A Italy-Slovenia Programme, the project focused on strengthening wildfire prevention and management in the cross-border Karst region.
The event brought together representatives of public institutions, research organizations, local authorities and project partners to present the results achieved throughout the project and discuss future perspectives for wildfire risk reduction and territorial resilience.
Topics addressed during the conference included community involvement, satellite and drone-based environmental monitoring, wildfire prevention strategies, and the long-term sustainability of the project’s outcomes. The event highlighted the importance of combining scientific knowledge, digital technologies and cross-border cooperation to address increasingly complex environmental challenges.
