Cultural Landscape for a Fire-Resilient Karst: How to Move Forward?

After the fire of 2022, it became clear that the restoration of the Karst is not only the task of nature, but also of the community, experts, farmers, municipalities, institutions, and individuals who live and work here.

Therefore, within the framework of the Karst Firewall 5.0 project, which focuses on developing cross-border measures to reduce fire risk in the Karst region, we invite you to join us on Wednesday, 28 January 2026, at 10:00, at the Conference Hall of the Peace Monument in Cerje (Lokvica 35, Miren), for a consultation meeting and participatory workshop addressing key issues related to the maintenance and restoration of the Karst cultural landscape as a way to increase fire resilience in the Municipality of Miren-Kostanjevica.

In recent decades, land use in the Karst has changed significantly. The abandonment of traditional grazing, the overgrowing of meadows, and the deterioration of dry-stone walls contribute to greater vulnerability of the area. Together with you, we will therefore seek practical solutions that could be implemented in the local environment.

The workshop is intended for everyone whose knowledge or work shapes the Karst landscape. We especially invite farmers, agrarian communities, local and national institutions in the fields of agriculture, environment, and spatial planning, advisory services, associations and institutions working in cultural heritage, dry-stone construction, and tourism, as well as the interested general public.
