Johnson & Johnson is a worldwide leader in the production of health and personal care products. It also supplies professional and pharmaceutical companies with consumer services. The Italian branch of J&J contacted Infordata to solve the problem of tracking and scheduling the various stages of its production line. After consulting with our experts, they chose the Miniwedge magnetic band reader to identify the various manufacturing stages and which members of staff used company badges. A model with RS-232 interface was chosen because it could be easily integrated into their dedicated systems. This model actually requires low-level management, irrespective of the operating system adopted, and doesn’t need any DLL files or high-level interpreters. Setting the serial communication is enough: when reading a magnetic badge, a data string is transferred through the RS232 door, which can be easily managed by dedicated hardware.
